毎日そこに在るはずの富士山。けれど、その姿は決して同じようには現れてくれません。光や湿度、そして見る人の心のありようによって、「見える日」と「見えない日」が静かに入れ替わります。本展では、「今日は見えた」という小さな喜び、あるいは見えなかった日の余白に目を向け、独自の技法で制作した木彫コラージュ、および木版画約三〇点を展示いたします。ぜひ作品の前で、皆さまそれぞれの時間を静かに重ねながらお楽しみください。
Mount Fuji, which should be there every day. Yet its form never appears the same. Depending on the light, humidity, and the state of mind of the viewer, “days when it can be seen” and “days when it cannot be seen” quietly alternate. This exhibition presents approximately 30 works—wood carving collages and woodblock prints created using unique techniques—focusing on the small joy of “seeing it today” or the blank space of days when it was not visible. We invite you to stand before the works and quietly layer your own moments of time as you enjoy them.
ナンシー諸善の作品について│About Nancy Shozen’s Work
ナンシー諸善は主に２種類の技法「浮世絵木版画」と「木彫コラージュ」によって作品を制作している。
浮世絵木版画
昔ながらの多色刷り（多版刷り）の浮世絵木版画の技法を用い、野趣の強い猫や地元静岡県から見える富士山の作品を制作している。耐光性に優れた油性絵の具を使用し、ミツマタ100％の厚めの駿河柚野紙（するがゆのがみ）に摺って表現される。駿河柚野紙は、国産原料にこだわり全て板干し天日乾燥でつくられる和紙である。
部屋に飾れば落ち着いた中におしゃれな雰囲気を感じさせてくれる作品である。
木彫コラージュ
木版画に用いる版木（はんぎ。シナとラワンの合板）やシナ材を使用して制作する作品。彫刻刀で像を彫り、着色した和紙を膠で貼ったりして制作する。さらにウッドバーニングの要領で木に焼き付けを行うこともある。着色した和紙の部分はさらに彫り、また和紙を貼ることを繰り返す。そうやって完成する１点物の作品がナンシー諸善の制作する木彫コラージュである。
Nancy Shozen primarily creates her works using two techniques: “Ukiyo-e woodblock prints” and “wood carving collage.”
Ukiyo-e Woodblock Prints
Using the traditional multi-color printing (multi-block printing) technique of ukiyo-e woodblock prints, I create works featuring cats with a strong rustic charm and Mount Fuji as seen from my local Shizuoka Prefecture. These are printed using oil-based paints with excellent lightfastness onto thick, 100% Mitsumata Suruga Yuno paper. Suruga Yuno paper is a Japanese paper made exclusively from domestic materials, dried entirely by sun-drying on boards.
These works bring a sense of calm and stylish atmosphere to any room they adorn.
Wood Carving Collage
Works created using woodblocks (made from plywood of Chinese fir and rawhang) or Chinese fir wood. She carves the image with a chisel, then applies colored Japanese paper using glue. Sometimes she also burns designs into the wood using woodburning techniques. She carves further into the colored paper sections and repeats the process of applying more paper. This is how Nancy Shozen creates her one-of-a-kind woodcarving collages.
